Questions... and Answers!

Q: Yo, what's the difference between EBX and EarthBoundX?

A: The actual name of this project is EBX. It does not stand for anything. EarthBoundX refers to the default set of levels that will come with EBX. I mix the usage of these two names often, however, the source code of EBX does not contain a single reference to EarthBound.

Q: Dude, why can't I move the paddle (bat)?

A: It's a bug with the keyboard control that Tomato never got time to fix. Use the mouse instead, it's better anyways.

Q: Whoa, what's this Special meter for?

A: It was for a future feature that Tomato never got time to implement. So it does nothing. But fun to watch!

Q: Hey, what program/compiler/language did Tomato make EBX in?

A: Tomato programmed EarthBoundX with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Professional Edition, using the DirectX 5 libraries.

Q: Cool, so what are the requirements to run EBX?

A: EBX requires Windows 95/98/NT with version 5 or higher of Microsoft's DirectX Runtime Libraries installed. The memory requirements are unknown, but you shouldn't have a problem with that. And lastly, you'll need to have a Pentium class or better processor, 133 MHz should be enough, depending on the speed of your video card.

Q: Wow, that readme with EBX is pretty outdated ain't it?

A: Yes, that is quite correct. This site has the more current information.

Q: Neat, when will there be more demos or levels?

A: Production on EBX has stopped. It may be picked up some day in the long future by Tomato, me, or someone else.. More levels can still be added to EarthBoundX without a new version. If anyone makes any progress, I will post it on this site.

Q: Oh! I wanna make some levels, how do I do that?

A: Calm down there, that's not an easy question to answer. Firstly, you should look at the EarthBoundX files, and study how they work. Then gather up your graphics and sounds (that is a tough part, heh). From there, you'll want to either use EBXLE to program the levels, or edit the dat files manually. I happened to have written a document with some help on dat editing. You can get that and EBXLE on the Download page.

Q: So, who are you?

A: I am Loco-san. I run this joint for my friend Tomato, the author of EBX. My email is locosan@yahoo.com. Send me some stuff.
